I’m a huge fan of Warhammer 40,000, so when I heard about Games Workshop’s new Horus Heresy Age of Darkness box set, I was immediately intrigued. I’ve been collecting Warhammer miniatures for years, and this set is by far the most comprehensive and impressive one I’ve ever seen.
The set includes a whopping 54 plastic miniatures, including two Legion Praetors, 10 Cataphractii Terminators, 40 highly customizable Tactical Space Marines in Mk VI power armor, and one Contemptor Dreadnought, and one Spartan Assault Tank. That’s enough miniatures to field a full army for either side of the Horus Heresy conflict.
In addition to the miniatures, the box set also includes a 336-page hardback rulebook filled to bursting with everything you need to know about the Horus Heresy, including extensive background information on one of the richest science fiction settings in the world. You also get 20 six-sided dice, one six-sided scatter dice, two blast templates, one flame template, two classic-style red plastic measuring sticks, and a transfer sheet for good measure.
The only downside to this set is that it’s all unpainted and unassembled. If you’re not into painting and assembling miniatures, then this set probably isn’t for you. But if you’re up for a challenge, then this is the perfect set to get you started in the Horus Heresy.
